Class and Team Photos

I've not been posting much lately as I've actually been quite busy traveling to the various schools I do taking their class and team photos. Unfortunately that means even though I am busy, I have very little to share. I love sharing my work but with so many children in each photo its just not possible to obtain permission from all the parents in order for me to share them.

But last year I created a photograph of the Hinckley Running Club Juniors which is a local athletics club founded by my husband, Andy. This photograph is very representative of the style I use with all my classes and teams so I thought I would share it, as I did manage to gain permission from the parents for the use of this photograph. I like to make my group photos more fun and where possible will incorporate items that represent the group to make it even more memorable for those involved.

I love that we have a keepsake of such an image that will be invaluable to those in it, and indeed for my husband who runs the group, in years to come. We love looking back on the class and team photos we have and seeing just how much all the children change over the years and in some cases realising that there are people who've been in our lives much longer than we ever knew.

I still have all my class photos from when I was a child. In fact I have every class photo from Kindergarten (age 4) to year 6 (age 11) and then a yearbook from Year 7-Year 13 and a yearbook for the year I graduated from University (where I was the Photo Editor). For those who don't know me, I'm Canadian but been living in England for nearly 16 years now.

While I'm here I thought I might include my very first class photo. Which incidentally has brought me back in contact with several people on this photo after I posted it to Facebook a number of years ago. So for me, it is well and truly priceless. I'm the one in the lovely (and clearly in fashion) red and white checked outfit sitting just behind the black sign.

I'm a Portrait Artist and Variety is the Spice of My Life

I often admire the work of other photographers. I'm always having a browse or spotting something interesting on Facebook or Pinterest. Many of them have a very consistent style and subject, as is the case with many newborn photographers especially. This has made me wonder if perhaps I'm not developing as a portrait artist as well as I could be. We are taught early on within the realms of the photography world that we are to develop a distinct style and this of course must be clearly evident in any upper level qualifications panels we choose to submit. However, when I look at my own work over each passing year I fail to see the same consistency. I don't have a particular subject in which I specialise. I can photograph anything from newborns to teenagers, toddlers to families and even the occasional male nude. How can you put these together in an album and form a beautiful collection that I see many other photographers displaying so well.

Its been a very busy year for me. Hence the reason I've not been keeping this blog up to date. That's about to change though. This style of portrait continues to be the eye catching success I had always hoped it would be. Once again I created a beautiful family portrait that I am really proud of and I know this family loves too.
